What Texas students are saying

Passed Texas Property & Casualty

“Long exam, but I was ready. Policy forms and Texas law finally made sense.”
Travis B. — Melissa, TX

Passed Texas Property & Casualty

“The Texas P&C exam is long and the state-law section is what trips people up. This prep spent enough time on Texas statutes, cancellation rules, and auto minimums. I walked into Pearson VUE prepared and passed on the first attempt.”
Jim T. — Plano, TX

Passed Texas Property & Casualty

“Generic study guides skipped too much Texas material. This one covered TWIA, the FAIR Plan, and agent licensing rules that actually showed up. Worth it if you're taking the Texas P&C exam.”
Andew L. — Fort Worth, TX

Passed Texas Property & Casualty

“What helped most was the Texas section: TDI authority, licensing, unfair practices, and residual markets. A lot of national courses are weak there, and that's a big chunk of the score. I studied after work for a few weeks, used the quizzes until I was consistently scoring high, then passed.”
Samantha S. — Dallas, TX

Passed Texas Property & Casualty

“Compared a couple of prep options. This one had better practice questions and clearer explanations on homeowners forms, personal auto, and Texas law. The exam is long, so the timed practice tests mattered. Passed the Texas P&C exam the first time.”
Veronica G. — San Antonio, TX

Passed Texas Property & Casualty

“Passed my Texas P&C exam last week. Practice questions were on point.”
Frank K. — Houston, TX

How insurance licensing works in Texas

A Texas insurance license means passing the state exam for your line of authority and then applying through the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). The General Lines license splits into Life, Accident & Health and Property & Casualty, and there is a separate Life Agent (life-only) license — each with its own exam covering general insurance knowledge plus Texas law.

Texas exams are administered by Pearson VUE, which you schedule and pay directly. Unlike some states, Texas does not require you to finish a certain number of pre-licensing course hours before testing — but the Texas-law portion of the exam pulls from the Texas Insurance Code and TDI rules, so state-specific study is what actually moves your score.

The usual route: study a Texas-built course, take timed practice exams until you are clearing the pass mark comfortably, sit the real exam with Pearson VUE, then submit your license application and fingerprints through NIPR or TDI once you pass.

Texas licensing questions

Who administers the Texas insurance licensing exam?+

Pearson VUE administers all Texas insurance agent exams at its test centers and through online proctoring. You register and pay for the exam directly with Pearson VUE.

Does Texas require a pre-licensing course?+

No — Texas does not require a set number of pre-licensing education hours to sit the exam. A course is still how most candidates prepare, because the Texas-law content is specific and heavily tested.

What license do I need to sell property and casualty in Texas?+

The General Lines – Property & Casualty license. Life and health products fall under General Lines – Life, Accident & Health, and a life-only path is covered by the Life Agent license. Each has its own exam.

Is the PassReadyPro course specific to Texas?+

Yes. The state-law lessons and practice questions are written against the Texas Insurance Code and Texas Department of Insurance rules for each line, not a generic national course.

What happens after I pass the Texas exam?+

Submit the license application through NIPR or TDI, complete the required fingerprint-based background check, and get an appointment from each insurer you represent before you can place business.
